Here’s a rare piece. A sticker for Van Zant’s Army, the UK-based Lynyrd Skynyrd Appreciation Society. Set up in the mid-70s to cater for British fans, it hosted meet-and-greets before shows. After the plane crash, the club went into a hiatus but rose again when the Rossington Collins Band was formed. Despite a number of planned UK tours, RCB never made it across the big duck pond. Once that band folded, the fan club folded too.
Here are a couple of pictures from one such Skynyrd meet-and-greet. Ronnie and Leslie, Westmorland Hotel, London in January 1977. Ronnie is wearing a Japanese Komono. At the end of the tour, Ronnie presented the Kimono to his limo driver, a man called Peter. He gave it to him as an expression of heartfelt thanks for being ferried around London. If anyone remembers the club, I would love to hear from you.
